Congressional bills are boring. I’ll make them interesting and fun.

Hi, I’m Jesse Rifkin. I spent a decade as a political journalist writing about congressional bills: first for GovTrack, then for The Fulcrum. Now I’m launching my own venture, in which I’ll describe legislation introduced… but in plain English, both in article and video form.

Every week, I’ll go through the list of all bills introduced in Congress, as listed on Congress.gov. Then I’ll pick a few of the most interesting ones, but which aren’t getting front-page news coverage.

To give you a sense, my first few articles and videos will include topics such as legislation about:

  • New federal holidays

  • Whether the president’s face can appear on our money

  • Sports betting and prediction markets

To my knowledge, literally nobody else in America is doing exactly this. Those other political journalists all covering the “biggest” stories about Congress: King Charles delivering a speech to Congress, Marjorie Taylor Greene resigning, the George Santos scandal. But what about the actual bills?

Our country, our society, our democracy needs this information. But they need it in the ways people increasingly actually consume media these days: Substack posts, TikTok + Instagram + YouTube videos. Come join me.
