The Reimagining Safety Act is the first-ever congressional bill not just to abolish ICE, but also its parent agency, the Department of Homeland Security.
It would replace the Department of Homeland Security with a new Cabinet-level Department of Community Safety.
Illinois Democratic Rep. Delia Ramirez introduced it in the House, alongside Michigan’s Rep. Rashida Tlaib, Arizona’s Rep. Adelita Grijalva, and Massachusetts’ Rep. Jim McGovern.
